Residential Painting FAQ's

  • The cost depends on the size of the house, state of the surfaces, materials used, and whether it's interior or exterior painting. We are happy to provide you with a free estimate for your project.

  • Looking at your painting needs allows us to give the best advice and quotation based on your requirements. This prevents any surprises for you if there is any extra work required.

  • We choose high-quality paints like Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore that offer durability, high coverage, a smooth finish and a wide selection of colours. Paints are chosen based on the project requirements to ensure a product suited to the job.

  • In most cases it is possible for a homeowner to stay in their home while it is being painted. If all surfaces of the room are scheduled for paint, then that room will have to be sealed off until completed. We ensure that homeowners feel as comfortable as possible and that there is minimal disruption.

  • The first step to prep a room for painting is to remove all of the furniture. If the room is large enough, furniture can be placed in the center of the room. Next, take everything off of the walls. We will fill in any holes in the walls from pictures that have been hanging. We can assist you in moving any furniture or large items.

  • This is a great question and one that is not only dependent on how a room is used, but it also dependent on the how much shine the homeowner prefers. The higher the sheen, the more cleanable it is and the longer the paint surface will last. On the downside, the higher the sheen, the more noticeable the texture and any imperfections in the surface will be. Eggshell tends to be a nice middle ground between high-gloss and matte, offering good durability and cleanability. More intricate areas like doors, trim, and cabinets, can be painted in a high gloss or semi-gloss sheen. At Up North Painting, we will walk through the different options and help you decide your preferred finish for the space.
